Auction: 1953 DB2/4 MKI Saloon

A very nicely proportioned DB2 hardtop coupe. Very nicely executed with excellent paint and a verified 10,987 miles. Seems to be well worth the pre-auction estimate of £80,000 to £100,000. Looks great from that rear 3/4 view.

The DB 2/4 was an elegant development of the DB2, now with a four seater (2+2) Saloon (Coupe) or Drophead Coupe body, featuring a much cleaner nose design than the earlier model. Early cars have 2.6 Litre Vantage spec engines, later cars (from 1954) have a more powerful 3 Litre engine that compensated for the extra weight.

The DB2/4 MK1 Saloons had an early form of "hatchback" rear window and could be considered to be quite a practical car. There were just 565 BD 2/4 MKI cars built.

This early example of the DB 2/4 MKI Saloon was purchased new in 1953 by an elderly doctor. The car is said to have been used very sparingly up to 1966 when it was put into dry storage. The car was not moved again until 2002, when it was acquired by the vendor. The motor car has just one registered owner from 1953 until the vendor registered the car in 2006.

Restoration work was carried out in the form of a bare metal repaint, the body requiring only minimal repair work. The underside and chassis were cleaned and painted and did not require any welding or repair work. The interior leather was renewed and the remainder of the interior refurbished. The car was then fitted with new chrome wire wheels and tyres plus a complete stainless steel exhaust system. On inspection, the mechanics of the car proved to be in fine order and remain largely original. The condition of the mechanics would also suggest that the recorded mileage of 10,987 miles is correct. We are able to confirm that the engine is sounding superb and the car is driving correctly.

Despite the restoration and refurbishment work the car has remained unused on the public highway. The car has been driven on private roadways to ensure its mechanical correctness and has recently undergone a light re-commissioning and MoT test.

The car is supplied with V5c certificate, the new MoT, workshop manual and a set of brand new chrome wire wheels.
